Using a memoQ Licence From Sandberg
If you have your own memoQ licence, you don't need to worry about any further setups but can proceed to checking out any project assigned to you. Freelancers without their own licences can temporarily borrow licences from Sandberg for the duration of the project using the instructions below.
Take a look at your project instructions - they will tell you which instructions you need:
- I need to work on Sandberg's memoQ server (mq.stptrans.com)
- I need to work on a non-Sandberg memoQ server (anything other than mq.stptrans.com)
I need to work on Sandberg's memoQ server (mq.stptrans.com)
Step 1: Make sure memoQ is installed and activated
Make sure you have memoQ 11 installed. If you are installing memoQ for the first time and need to borrow a license from us, when you get to this part of the activation wizard, choose the option, “I am a new user, I would like a free trial”. Do not choose the third option. Doing so will block you from claiming a license from us.
After the activation wizard has completed, you can see your current version of memoQ in the memoQ Application Menu.
If you do have a serial number here and the current edition is listed as 'memoQ 4Free', you are good to move on to Step 2.
If you do not have a serial number, and have already tried to activate your memoQ following the steps above, then you may already have been granted a memoQ serial number at some point in time and it may have expired. In this case, you need to contact memoQ support to check this and ask them to grant you a 4free licence.
Step 2: Clear your CAL tab
Still in the above tab, click Activation. Go to the tab called CAL, and make sure what you see mirrors the screenshot below. If you see any login information here, click Clear. You should not have anything configured here, otherwise you cannot get a license.
Step 3: Check out your project
Close the Activation dialog and use the Check out from Server icon to check out a project for translation. This will open the below dialog.
Type in the Sandberg server URL or select it from the drop down menu if you've used it previously and select it. If this is your first time connecting to the server, you will be prompted for your login information.
When you're logged in, you can see a list of all the projects assigned to you. Use the search field to find your project, select it, and click Check out project. As you are checking out the project, you are also being granted a temporary license in the process. The project will now appear in your project list and you can get started.

Step 2: Configure the CAL server
Still in the above tab, click Activation. Your Sandberg PM has manually assigned a licence to you, and you need to now grab it from Sandberg's server, before you can check out the work from our client's server.
- Go to the CAL tab in the dialog window that opens and click Configure.
- Enter the Sandberg server URL mq.stptrans.com and click Test. Insert your Sandberg logins when prompted.
- Proceed to to the next step
Note: Configuring CAL is only a temporary thing: when you are done with the project that is not on Sandberg's server, you need to clear the CAL information again before you can check out projects from Sandberg's server. Scroll to the top of this page for these instructions.
