Claim tasks

Overview

On this page you can see any new tasks that are offered to you. The page refreshes automatically every five minutes. Task claiming allows us to offer a task to multiple translators at the same time. It is a first-come-first-served function, so the first translator to accept the task will be assigned to it. You can edit the email notification settings related to task offers under your Profile.

Many translators work with us very closely, and offering tasks to be claimed allows our teams to send out frequent, multiple requests to the team's regular freelancers to accept without having to discuss each individual task separately. Task claiming is also used for faster placing of urgent ad hoc work, where time for finding an available translator is of the essence. In addition to using the task claiming feature for certain tasks, our PMs will offer other tasks to you via email.

You are only offered tasks that match the preferences that you have set in your Profile and which your profile information suggests you are most suitable for, so it's a good idea to keep it updated.

Tentative vs scheduled work

Tentative work means projects where we need to get a final confirmation from our client before we can proceed with launching the task and starting the work. This means that at the time of offering you the task, we cannot confirm with 100% certainty if the project will go ahead or not. We might also send an offer as tentative if some key details such as the quantity or the schedule are only preliminary estimates and need double-checking before we launch the tasks for linguists. The project is likely to go ahead, but we do want to make it transparent before you accept the offer that it may not.

Scheduled work means projects that are already confirmed and ready to be started by the Start (UK time) listed in the offer. You can expect that when you accept one of these offers, the PM will launch it as soon as they have finalised all project materials and instructions for you.

Responding to offers

For each offer, you can see various details about the task in question, including the quantity and the rate that is applied, based on the rates that you have agreed with us. There might also be additional information such a project references, or an Offer note where the PM might have added some information that you should take into account when responding to the offer. If the note is truncated, hover your mouse over the text to see it in full.

Whenever possible, we aim to fill in a detailed breakdown of the word counts (for word-based tasks), which you can view in a pop-up by clicking the underlined Quantity value. However, these breakdowns may not always be available, so if the pop-up is empty, it means there is no breakdown available for that task. Contact the PM if you would like more information.

We also try to provide examples of the source text or other reference files, although these might not always be available or something we can share at the time of sending out offers. If any files are available, there will be a Click here button in the Task instructions & materials field, leading to a read-only SharePoint folder with the files. Note that whatever files are shared for viewing at this stage might not be the final ones that you will be working on.

When you have reviewed the offer and decided how you wish to respond, use the options to either Accept or Reject it, as appropriate. Note that accepting a task is considered an agreement that you will undertake it. You should only accept tasks that you are sure you can work on.

Accepted, expired & rejected offers

Under this section, you can see a list of all the recent offers that are no longer active. Any accepted tasks will stay on the list until the PM launches them, at which point they move under your Current tasks and you can start working on them.

All the other types of offers will stay visible on the list until midnight, at which point they are purged.
