Spellchecking
The Xbench spellchecker is quite a useful tool but its biggest downside is that it doesn't support Finnish, as the spellcheck is Hunspell-based. Running the spellchecker is the same procedure in both Xbench 2.9 and 3.0, but installing the dictionaries is different.
Installing spellcheckers in Xbench 2.9
- First, get the spellchecker ZIP(s) for the language(s) you want to install. All languages available can be found at http://www.apsic.com/blog/?p=20.
- Shut down Xbench completely (Project > Shutdown Xbench)
- Navigate to the Xbench 2.9 installation folder on your PC
- Unzip the content of the spellchecker package(s) into the Xbench installation folder. If you unzip multiple languages, note that some of the files are common for all language packs.
- Start up Xbench again and make sure that the Check Group Spell-checking is now available under the QA tab
Installing spellcheckers in Xbench 3.0
- In Xbench, navigate to Tools > Spell-checker dictionaries
- Select any language you want to install and click Install. Repeat for additional languages.
Running spellcheck
Once installed, the spellchecker is added to the QA function in Xbench. If selected, the spellchecking plugin is activated when you run QA.
If a spellchecker is activated, this window will pop up when running QA. All potential spelling errors will appear in a list format, with the source and target text below.
You can create addendums to the dictionary and save anything you don't want to flag in future spellchecks. Click Addendums > Manage Addendums and add a new addendum. You can create as many as you like if you want to separate them, and activate/deactivate them by checking the box next to the addendum.
With an addendum active, you can then select words from the spellchecker results and add these to your addendum - they will then not be flagged as long as the addendum is active.
You can also exclude words from the spellchecker based on various criteria by clicking Exclusions
Finally, any results in the spellchecker can of course be dealt with right away in the original CAT tool, but you can also add anything you like to the QA results, if a report including spelling issues needs to be exported. First decide if you want the report to contain Real Misspellings or False Alarms (the former is more likely) under Settings > Change Working Mode. Then simply drag & drop, double-click or use the arrow icons to move candidates to the Real Misspellings/False Alarms list. Anything added here will be listed in the QA report as such and Xbench will remember your choices in subsequent spellchecks; any term moved to the Real Misspellings/False Alarms list will automatically appear there if the term appears in a future spellcheck.
