Creating a TM out of bilingual files

Creating a TM out of bilingual files

Normally if a client has any previous translations they want us to reference, they send a TM. However, sometimes we might receive only individual bilingual files. If the work is in memoQ, these bilingual files could be imported as they are to LiveDocs, but we can also turn them into a TM using Xbench.

NOTE: The TM created this way will lack any metadata so this process is only meant to be used on temporary client resources. The resulting TM should not be imported into any maintained resources in memoQ.

  • Create a new project in Xbench, and load all the bilingual files you want to create a TM with as Ongoing Translation.
    • If you have multiple different file formats, you can add them all into the same project.
  • Go to Tools>Export items.
  • In the export settings, select All items in project, TMX Memory, add the two-letter language code to define the language pair of your TMX, and select where you want the file to be created.
  • Click OK and Xbench will start creating the TMX file.
