Converting XML (Multiterm) glossaries into TXT files
You can use Xbench to convert an .xml Multiterm glossary into a simpler .txt version of that can be used for various purposes, like QA or importing in memoQ. Usually you would do this if you have a very large multilanguage TB, but you only need the terms for one language pair.
NOTE: This below process simplifies Multiterm glossaries to a two-column .txt file with source and target terms. While this is generally all that's needed, it also removes all additional information about the terms that might have been present in Multiterm. If you have a client that has a habit of storing important information in comments or notes of terms, this process might not be a good idea.
- Create a new project in Xbench.
- Load the xml Multiterm glossary as Key terms.
- Click on Special Settings to prompt a menu that lets you choose the language pair you want to export. Select the source and target language and click OK
- Click OK and go to Tools>Export items.
- In the export settings, select All items in project, Tabbed Text file, Number of data columns to export: 2, and select where you want the file to be created.
- Click OK and Xbench will start creating the .txt file.
